Blogger?

Since the worlds most stressful class is what prompted the creation of this blog, I figured I should tell/show y'all a little bit of what we did... other than blogging.

The Final Product:

Hours and hours of work went into that cardboard pod.  We were to design a pod that could house a mother and her infant within a much larger homeless shelter of sorts.  The pod itself would have no plumbing or electricity but really just be a place for storage/sleeping/and taking care of the infant.

They could have roofs that raised and lowered up to four feet, and could extend out to the front four feet as well.

For some reason I thought a murphy bed was a really smart idea... building a working one out of cardboard is not easy.  Especially knowing that it had to all collapse down into this:

It was a long quarter to say the least.

However,  It kicked off a really fantastic trip with some girlfriends out to Colorado.  We did a little of this:

this:

and this:

It was wonderful and followed up by a lovely weekend at the river with the fam.

Now it's back to the grind and a new set of classes.  This time we get to create a home from scratch within an unfinished high-rise.  But we don't have to build it this time :)

Quote of the Day:

Living is the greatest art of all. - Alfred Stieglitz

Does this encourage anyone else to reevaluate how they live?

Happenings...

A.  Has anyone else had content just disappear off of their blog??  Specifically Pages?  Hmmm...

B.  My brother is buying a house!!!

When D called to tell me they had accepted his offer I had a few thoughts (yes, in this order):  Gah, We're so old.  Oh boy, I can help decorate.  Damn, he's younger than me.  Maybe I should buy a house!?  Wait no, I work part time and make roughly $10 an hour.  Maybe I could get a really cheap one and completely renovate.  I should look online.  Wait, no, I have 20 hours of homework to do tonight.  This weekend?  Busy.  Hmmm maybe this isn't the time to be thinking about this.  Gosh I'm so mature and smart to not impulsively buy a house..... can you even do that?  What started this?  Oh yes, my little brother is buying a house!  Yay!

Clearly this is the thought process of someone who should NOT be buying a home... but instead someone who is already planning to spend many hours stripping wallpaper boarders and painting at a little house down in WH.  My whole family is practically vibrating with excitement.

C.  Lady Gaga's Just Dance came on the radio today... it made me sooo happy!!  I even took a picture:

There's fresh freesia on the mantle, gerber daisies on the table and a rake leaning against the wall by my back door.  I can almost taste spring.

Truer Words...

It's hard living away from the water.  I've adjusted over the years but for the first 18 years of my life I looked out my window every day and saw it.  It's one of those things that just sets my heart at ease.

I don't discriminate against fresh water though:

A cool drink of water
A hot bath
Days on the lake

What cures what ails you?

BlahBlahBlah

One of those days...

A day of Homework
A day of Rain
A day with a Very Sick Dog (yuck)

A day of rare but lovely smiles...

My darling pal got a major promotion on her birthday!!
and this picture:

you'd best believe I'll be getting a little piglet for a wall somewhere... maybe over my desk?

On a completely unrelated note...

The Volkswagen commercial where the little boy is dressed as Darth Vader is one of my all time favorites. As a little boy (and still to this day) my brother is a huge Star Wars fan.  So, it very clearly reminded me of what he was like as a child.

These days my mom has given up on the immediate dream of having grandchildren (yaaay)  and has instead switched to dogs.  Everyone member of my family has their own now for the first time ever and we definitely spoil them like none other:

Meet Buddy:
hanging out in Dad's lap

And Louisa:
just relaxing and blending in under the kitchen island

and Ruthie:

the most patient dog alive.

They all came to us in very different ways but they all had a rough time before we found them.  And we looooove them and it sure seems as though they love us.  Minus Buddy's occasional bites.

Sorry, Tangent.  The point was that this new VW commercial may be the best yet...

Not as heartwarming to me as this:

but still sooo cute.

Ok, VW's advertising team is smart.  we've known that for a while.  Advertising alone is what has turned this brand around.  Well advertising and some smart design.  But I love how they've tied these together.  The Darth Vader commercial struck home with their demographic... and beyond.  It was a mix of heartwarming and hilarious and i know that I would love to be any one of those characters in the commercial.  It was a success in every way you hope a super bowl ad is.  I still get that video emailed to me every now and then.  The new one touches on those same feelings and I can't wait to see where they are headed with it!

Ok, back to school work...

Resolutions

Resolutions much like diaries/blogs never quite stick in my world.  Until I made a mid-year resolution a year and a half ago.  I decided I was going to be a happier person.  I would surround myself with people, places and things that made me happy.  I try to reaffirm that to myself every few weeks.

This year, however, I'm resolving to push myself.

I'm hoping I'm half as successful in this endeavor :)
